Objectives

  1. Review Literature and identify various Intelligent Techniques tools such AI-Based adaptive learning, adaptive automated examination, exploratory behavior and creativity, data mining tools in education, gamification tools in education and how they can be integrated in e-learning platforms for personalized learning.
  2. Carry out a survey and identify the gaps in the current e-learning being utilized in Kenyan Universities platforms in terms of offering personalized learning and how modern AI strategies mentioned in objective one can be incorporated in the current e-learning platforms.
  3. Implement an e-learning system that utilizes AI techniques and integrate it with Moodle, an open source E-learning platform to provide adaptive learning, exploratory behavior and creativity, educational data mining and gamification in order to create software’s which will make e-learning effective and a good alternative to human-human tutoring.
  4. Carry out an experimental study to investigate how the use of (a) AI-Based adaptive learning, (b) exploratory behavior and creativity, (c) educational data mining and (d) gamification tools enhances personalized learning in e-learning platforms
  5. Implement a system that provides for auto-generated of standard examination papers in order
    to extend the flexibility of e-learning to incorporate flexible assessment schedules and exams on demand.
  6. Carry out an experimental study to evaluate how exams auto-generated on demand enhance personalized learning in e-learning platforms.

Expected Research Output

  • Refereed journal papers/book Chapters and conference proceedings with critical analysis on literature review on the use of AI techniques in e-learning platforms.
  • Refereed journal papers/book Chapters to document survey studies related to the current gaps in the use of e-learning platforms to support personalized learning in Kenyan Universities
  • Postgraduate Students’ proposals for those students who will be involved in the research
  • Various Software AI-based adaptive learning, exploratory behavior and creativity, educational data mining and gamification tools which will be integrated into Moodle to provide personalized learning.
  • Exams Auto-generator with at least twenty (20) pilot units and all the features that HEIs currently utilize including external moderation and review interfaces
  • Project reports and refereed journal papers on experimental results on evaluation of the use of AI techniques to improve personalized learning in e-learning platforms
  • The research also targets to produce theses for five PhD students and 5 Masters student
